pic2St. John's Church Choir is a mixed choir of all ages from juniors upwards run by Chris Warren (Director of Music) and Philip Sherratt (Organist). The choir sings at the Sunday morning Eucharist at 10.00 am, at various special services such as Advent and Christmas and also Choral Evensong four or five times a year. Details of music for current services can be found on the Current Music List.

We are grateful to have many opportunities to visit other churches and sing with other choirs. We have sung Choral Evensong in Derby Cathedral in both 2010 and 2011, both of which were well-received, and in April 2012 will visit Methley, near Wakefield. We also join with choirs from other churches - we enjoy exchange visits for Evensong with the choir of St Oswald's, Ashbourne, and on a more local basis join with the choir of Chilwell Road Methodist Church for our Christmas Carol Service, the venue alternating between the two churches. In addition, this year we joined with the Chilwell Road choir and St Mary's, Attenborough to sing Faure's much-loved Requiem in a devotional performance just prior to Easter.

The Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and participates in the Voice for Life scheme which provides a sound basis for the theory and practice of singing through various levels. We are constantly looking for new members of all ages and all voices - all we ask is that you are able to sing in tune and blend with the choir but hope that junior members will gradually learn this skill during the time they spend with us. University students are especially welcome - even if they are not around at the busiest times of the year!

The choir also pursue an active social life. The adults retire to the pub following practices on Friday nights - any non-singers are welcome to join us then for "Part 2"! From time to time, other social events for all ages are arranged, such as trips to bowling or laser quest.

Choir practice is on a Friday night from 7.00pm to 9.00 pm (with lower voices joining at 7.30pm) with additional practices when required at busy times.

For further details please contact Chris Warren, or feel free to find one of us after the Sunday morning service if you are interested in joining - you would be most welcome!
